WELCOME to the 11th annual THIRSTY EAR FESTIVAL! New Mexico's premier roots music festival features dozens of blues, folk, bluegrass, alt-country, roots rock & world music artists on 4 stages all weekend long. Plus camping, kids' activities, swing dance lessons, NM craft microbrews (including Thirsty Ear pale ale, brewed specially for the occasion) & small-batch wines, healthy local food, arts & crafts, educational demonstrations, sustainable energy exhibits & more. All of the information you need (tickets, schedule, camping & hotel info, etc.) is, or will soon be, on this website. So please take a few moments to read this page and to peruse the links at the top left of this page.
WHAT TO EXPECT & WHAT TO BRING: The festival takes place at an Old West movie ranch where more than 100 westerns have been filmed—an entirely unique setting. There's plenty of opportunity for a cool drink in the saloon and to get out of the sun, but the main stage is outdoors. So remember to bring lawn chairs (full size is fine), sunscreen, blankets, umbrellas, warm clothes for the evening, and anything else you might need for an outdoor event. We do not allow tents or anything that might obstruct the view. Nor do we allow coolers, alcohol, glass, flash cameras, pets or mean people. You can bring in food, but must leave coolers in your car (you will have open access to your car in the adjoining lot). We care about our patrons' health; the festival is a non-smoking event
BRING THE KIDS: Kids under 12 get in free. So bring the young ones for two days of programming in the Kids' Corral, featuring arts & crafts, hula-hoop making, storytelling, hands-on African drumming workshops with AKEEM AYANNIYI, and more.
Saturday's festivities kick off at 1:00 and feature the sweet sounds of Newgrass pioneer SAM BUSH and his band, alt-folk by PO' GIRL, Mississippi Hill Country blues by the extraordinary Memphis street musician RICHARD JOHNSTON (festival director Mike Koster's pick for sleeper hit of this year's fest), rockin' Tex-Mex by FELIX Y LOS GATOS, and many more. If you like to dance, duck into the Grand Hotel for Western swing dance lessons just before ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL's main stage set.

Sunday is jam-packed with performances including an opening set of traditional Cuban street music by SAVOR, a rollicking Texas roadhouse set by HAYES CARLL and his band, DAVE ALVIN exploring his acoustic roots with his new band THE GUILTY WOMEN, singer-songwriter DARRELL SCOTT, Chicago's Motown-meets-folk outfit JT & THE CLOUDS, New Mexico favorite ALEX MARYOL, and many more. VIP ticket holders won't want to miss the afternoon beer & wine tasting, featuring NM craft beers and small-batch wines. And we encourage anyone who loves folk music to pick up a pass to the separately ticketed FOLK BRUNCH with PO' GIRL (if you have a VIP pass, you're already covered).

We hope you'll all take some time to check out all the green and sustainable energy businesses, non-profits, and community organizations that are participating in this year's festival, providing educational materials and exhibits. We'd like to extend a special thanks to Green sponsors 310 Solar, Electric Cars of Albuquerque, Christus St. Vincent, and Affordable Solar. If you are a green organization and would like to participate, please contact Deena Klein at 505-319-1131.
There's music everywhere...enjoy.
SUNDAY FOLK BRUNCH: In addition to Saturday's main stage set, one of our favorite folk outfits, PO' GIRL, will play a special, separately ticketed FOLK BRUNCH in the Grand Hotel from noon to 1:00 on Sunday. Featuring organic vegetarian and meatlover's chili, organic greens, and all the fixin’s, this is a fundraiser for Southwest Roots Music. If you've got a VIP SUPER PASS, you're already covered. Otherwise, make sure to pick up a ticket. With only 70 spots available, this will surely sell out.
