"A raspy-voiced West Texas mystic with an equal affinity for romantic border balladry and Zen paradox."
—Rolling Stone
Texas Music Hall of Famer Butch Hancock's reputation as one of the finest songwriters on the planet is sometimes overshadowed by the fact that Hancock makes up 1/3 of Texas supergroup The Flatlanders, along with Lubbock pals Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Ely and Gilmore's talents are certainly beyond dispute, but the group's finest songs have always been penned by Hancock, whose quirky poetic tales have been covered by Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker and countless others. An accomplished photographer, architect and outdoorsman, Hancock's do-it-yourself attitude has resulted in his largely avoiding record labels in favor of self-releasing a string of much-praised solo records dating back to the seventies. His latest is War and Peace, a comment on the sorry state of our current union--delivered with his characteristic warmth and wit, despite the subject matter. We haven't hosted Butch as a solo act since his 2000 performance at the Thirsty Ear Festival. It's a thrill to welcome him back.
